We run the repetitions it takes for behaviors to actually hold up. Not just in a quiet training room, but when there's a dog across the street or a stranger at the door.

Who Your Dog Will Be Living With
Your dog isn't going to a kennel. Your dog is coming to my house in Grass Valley — living with me, my dogs, my cat, the doorbell, the coming and going, all of it. Because that's what a home is, and a home is where your dog has to work.
That's the whole point. A dog can look perfect in a training room and fall apart in a living room. So we do life together. Meals, rest, the busy parts of the day, field trips out into Roseville and Sacramento with other trainers and other dogs. My house is a busy one. If yours is quieter, that's easy — I'd rather your dog learn to hold it together here and then go home to something calmer than the other way around.
I have a list of credentials I'm happy to walk you through — vet tech years, sport titles, the trainers who taught me. Ask me at the consultation. But none of that is what makes this work.
What makes it work is that we build the plan together. I meet your dog, I meet you, and we're honest about what your dog actually needs. Then your dog lives with me for two to three weeks and learns how to live in a house — so I can hand that back to you.

What makes Potrero K9's training approach different?
Board and train isn’t a dog hotel with occasional training sessions thrown in. It’s continuous skill rehearsal, multiple times a day, from the moment I get your dog out of the crate until bedtime. Every interaction is training.
Can training help with off-leash skills?
Yes. During board and train we work heeling both on and off leash, along with place bed skills, loose leash walking, and foundational obedience.
How does Potrero K9 help dogs transition back home after training?
When you pick up your dog, we have a go-home lesson. I show you how the tools work, we practice the behaviors together, and I watch your handling: how you mark behaviors, how you time your rewards, and where you might accidentally reward the wrong thing. About two weeks later, a follow-up lesson checks in on how it’s going at home.
What training methods do you use?
My training is reward-based. I set your dog up to make good choices and reward those choices. If a dog needs more help, we talk about other tools, like an e-collar, so you know exactly how and why it’s used.
Is your training humane?
Yes. Training starts with understanding your dog and rewarding good choices. Any tool is discussed with you up front and only used with your knowledge and approval.
Do you use e-collars?
Yes. Tools like an e-collar aren’t for every dog, but they’re part of how I train when a dog needs more help. At your go-home lesson, I show you how the tools work so you can use them correctly.
What if I don't want a specific tool used on my dog?
Tell me. Tools are never used without being discussed up front and implemented with your knowledge and approval.

I coordinate pickup and drop-off with each client when we set up your dog’s program.
What if my dog has never been away from home?
The dogs that thrive in my board and train programs are already crate-trained. That’s the biggest predictor of success. If your dog isn’t used to sleeping in a crate, they can still come, but you need to tell me that upfront. If your dog has separation anxiety, I can work with that, but it adds at least one, possibly two extra weeks to the program.
Where does my dog sleep? What does a day look like?
Your dog sleeps in a crate. Mornings start with a potty break and good exercise, either in our exercise yard or on the treadmill. Mid-morning is a formal training session, in our training space or out in real environments. Afternoons are calm settles in crates or on place beds. Evenings repeat the sequence with calmer exercises so dogs wind down for the night.
How much does board and train cost?
A two-week board and train with four private lessons is $2,500. A three-week board and train with two private lessons is $3,000. Dogs who have already been through my program can book a one-week refresher board and train for $1,000. If your dog has separation anxiety, the extra weeks are reflected in the cost.
Do you take reactive dogs?
Yes. Reactive dogs are welcome in board and train. If board and train isn’t the right fit for your dog, I’ll tell you upfront.
What breeds and ages do you take?
All breeds are welcome. Puppies 5 to 12 months old go through Puppy Board and Train, which starts with four private lessons before the two-week stay.
What happens when my dog comes home?
You get a go-home lesson at pickup, a follow-up lesson within two weeks, two free group classes to continue your dog’s progress, and three months of text and phone access to me.
What if the training doesn't stick?
If you pick up your dog and don’t follow the plan, your dog will start reverting within a week. Board and train works because we repeat skills hundreds of times, so the reps need to continue at home. That’s what the follow-up lesson is for: checking that you’re using the tools, marking the right behaviors, and handling consistently.
