Meet Alexia Rodriguez,
Roseville Dog Trainer

I'm a competitor, a former vet tech, and a full-time trainer since 2019—but before any of that, I'm someone who believes the best training starts with a real relationship between you and your dog.

Where My Story Starts

My passion for dogs began when I was 12. My mother showed and bred Japanese Chins in AKC conformation shows, and I grew up working as kennel help for show dog fanciers and boarding kennels—handling everything from Dachshunds and Salukis to Bloodhounds and Mastiffs.

At 18, I got my first animal career job as a veterinary technician. I spent years working in animal emergency and veterinary clinics, and I'm proficient in animal first aid and CPR. Even after I left the vet industry, my love for dogs never waned—I stayed involved in small dog rescue and rehabilitation.

Then in 2012, my husband and I were introduced to Schutzhund training with our Cane Corso—and it opened up a whole new world for me and my dogs.

From Competitor to Trainer

I trained with several well-known dog trainers in Northern California, focusing on Schutzhund and competition-level obedience, and put my own Corsos to work in AKC agility, tracking, barn hunt—anything available near me. I've titled in several levels of AKC agility, Schutzhund, conformation, and a host of other performance sports, and I became an AKC dog show judge along the way. I also founded West Coast Cane Corso Rescue, a nonprofit that still operates today.

In 2016, through that rescue work, I met Sara Walchlii and Jess Pombo—trainers and instructors at the Michael Ellis School for Dog Trainers and owners of Sonoma County Canine. I started a mentorship with them to go deeper into dog behavior: working with different temperaments, behavioral issues, and how to build a training plan for each individual dog.

In 2020, my mentors—including Oscar Mora of Elevated Canine—gave me my first client dogs to train. After that, I left my day job to train full time. I still take classes through the Michael Ellis School and attend workshops with other trainers, because there's always more to learn.

How I Train

My training is built on the relationship between you and your dog. Every dog is an individual, so I don't run one program for every dog—I read the dog in front of me and build a plan for that dog's temperament, needs, and your goals at home.

And I don't just train your dog—I teach you. My goal is to hand you the tools, guidelines, and confidence to keep the progress going long after our work together ends, so you can have the dog you've always dreamed of.

★★★★★

“From day one, Alexia has been so amazing and positive… She is patient and kind with Dominic and me. She gives us the tools we need to succeed with consistency. She is great at reading the dog and making changes that not only correct problems but teach us how to prevent the problems before they happen. I can't recommend her enough.”
